SKYBUS PRELIMINARY TEST SUCCESSFUL: The Konkan Railway Corporation on August
25 achieved another milestone with the successful preliminary test of the
Sky Bus. The Sky Bus moved on its own power using sophisticated 3-phase AC
motor technology supplied by ELIN EBG of Austria. It was a momentous
occasion when the Sky Bus moved to and fro over a 30-metre distance. KRC
manager (public relations) Baban Ghadge informed that full-scale
pre-commissioning trials on the test track would be conducted from the first
week of September. (GT)

TUTORS PLAN JUDICIAL RECOURSE: Coaching classes and private tutors operating
in the state are contemplating approaching the Panjim Bench of the Bombay
High Court against the government's "unreasonable" decision to regulate and
monitor their activities. (H)

CONG MOVE TO TOPPLE BJP: The Congress leaders in Goa have once again renewed
their move to dislodge the BJP-led government even as they are closely
awaiting the verdict in the disqualification petitions against two BJP MLAs
before the Supreme Court, which are likely to come up on 30 August. (GT)

ISIDORE LIKELY TO BE BJP CANDIDATE: Decks have been cleared for fielding
former MLA Isidore Fernandes as the candidate of BJP from Poinguinim
constituency in the ensuing by-polls fixed on 13 October this year. (GT)

TRUCKERS TO INTENSIFY STRIKE: The transporters' stir entered the fifth day
(on Aug 25) and there seems to be no end in sight, but trucks carrying
vegetables from the neighbouring states of Karnataka and Maharashtra
continued to come in the state with police escort. The local truck operators
have now decided to intensify their agitation from Thursday by having a
total closure on movement of all transportation of goods. (NT)

SUBSIDISED FEES FOR POOR STUDENTS: The private engineering colleges in Goa
propose to urge the State government to subsidise the education of
meritorious students from economically weaker sections in their
institutions. (GT)

BUGLES SHOP FOR HIS LADY LOVE: His love for his fiancee was such that Sunil
Sahani (of Bihar) and three others burgled Bhonse Jewellery shop in
Curchorem on August 16, in order to obtain ornaments for his wife-to-be. He
even went one step further by reserving a stolen ornament for their future
offspring. (H)

SRI LANKAN PILGRIMS: Thirty-five pilgrims from Sri Lanka including eight
priests will visit Goa from 26 to 29 August. The four-day programme will be
organised by Fr Eremito Rebelo. There will be a concelebrated mass at the
sanctuary on 29 August at 9 am wherein the pilgrims will pray for the
canonization of Bl Joseph Vaz, Son of Goa (Benaulim-Sancoale), who lived an
exemplary life holiness and worked many miracles during his lifetime. (GT)

RAMPONKARS FOR CONSERVING MARINE RESOURCES: Traditional fishermen have
maintained that there's been an overall decline in fish catch in recent
times. But, unlike the boat owners, who support the early lifting of the ban
to maximise fish catch, the traditional fishermen want a ban on trawling to
conserve the marine resources; Goenchea Ramponnkarancho Ekvott president,
Agnelo Rodrigues told Herald that the catch of the prized shrimp has been on
a gradual decline in the last few years, and blamed large scale mechanized
fishing for the disturbing situation. (H)

NUVEM'S ACUTE TRAFFIC CONGESTION: Acute traffic congestion in Nuvem village
is a problem that has been dogging the local populace for quite some time.
The situation is particularly chaotic at the main junction near the Nuvem
market especially during peak hours. The general lack of traffic discipline
coupled with a never-ending stream of traffic makes the area accident-prone.
(NT)

KIDS AND GRANNIES TOGETHER: Mabel Vaz is learning computers at the village
school. This ebullient grandmother appears to be the senior-most student in
the computer class. Angela Vaz, another retired teacher, attends the music
class with her ten-year-old grand-daughter Kezannedra. They have a great
opportunity thanks to the efforts of some Divar citizens who have made this
possible through the Sons-of-the-Soil project in association with ACES,
Pilar Music School, Divar Music School and Our Lady of Divar High School at
its premises. (Paul Fernandes in GT)

SALGAOCAR COLLEGE WINS: Mr Vivek Rodrigues and Mr Galileo Teles of VM
Salgaocar College of Law, Miramar, emerged victorious at the 9th Bar Council
of Maharashtra and Goa moot court competition held on August 21, at the
Bharti Vidhyapeeth University, Pune. (NT)

SERAULIM RESIDENT MISSING: Violando Pascoal Dias, 30, a resident of Per
Seraulim, has been reported to be missing. A missing report has been filed
by his mother Ana Francisca Fernandes with the Colva police. (GT)

CASUARINA TREES LOOSE BATTLE WITH EROSION: Around 150 Casuarina trees
dotting the Betalbatim-Majorda coast gave in this monsoons, either due to
strong winds or soil erosion. The Forest Department has auctioned the
uprooted tees. Officials say the auction proceeds made the Forest department
richer by Rs.17,000, but has no concrete plans on how to save the rich tree
cover - acting as a buffer zone between the beach and the land mass. (H)

DIVADDKARS TO DANCE TO BONDERAM TUNE: The stage is set for the celebration
of the historic "Bonderam", organised by Piedade Youth Association, on
August 28, at Piedade in Divar. At the break of dawn on August 28, the youth
will go around the village playing the traditional "Alvorad", heralding the
commencement of Bonderam festivities. The main function is scheduled to
begin at 4.30 pm at the Asilo grounds, with the parading of the traditional
flags to the accompaniment of a brass band. The six floats which will vie
for the prizes are Vittozem, Jingle Bells, Divar Centre, Primeiro, Maddant
and Romantic. The floats will take off from Fetorim junction and end at Our
Lady of Divar High School. (H)

BLEAK FUTURE FOR SEAFARERS: Over 5000 youth from Goa have completed their
pre-sea G.P. rating (deck/engine/catering) training from various maritime
training institutes in Goa and Mumbai, with a dream to become a 'seafarer'
and see the world, but presently their dreams appears to have been
shattered, as the boys, who completed their course in 2001, are still
without a job. (Melson FM Louis)

FRIDAY BALCAO: The fortnightly discussion event to be held on August 27 will
focus on the compulsory use of helmets. The recent decision of the
Government of Goa to make the use of helmets compulsory for all riders of
two wheelers from August 16 has created a lot of heat and resulted in an
agitation of sorts. After a number of delegations and meeting with the
concerned authorities, demanding a relaxation of the rules for certain
categories of riders and on certain roads there seems to be a change in the
policy of the Govt. The Balcao discussion will cover pertinent questions and
also evolve an agenda for action by citizens. (Goa Desc

JAZZ GOA SHOW: The forthcoming Jazz Goa show will be held on August 27 with
top musicians in attendance, at Gonsalves Mansion, Campal-Panjim, from 7 pm.
The musicians are S Harikumar, Indian jazz violin and student of legendary
Dr. L Subramanium; the inimitable Jazzy Joe; Mark Nunes, top violin jazz
exponent from Bombay, generally playing in the films; Clifford Pereira, one
of the only harp musicians left in our country; Veeam Braganza, Goa's latest
nightingale; Gary and 12-year-old Kirk Rodrigues, stunning youngsters who
play violin, guitar and viola; Just Jazz, Goa's top jazz ensemble comprising
Belinda Oliveira, George Fernandez, Colin D'Cruz and Lester Godinho playing
just for this show for old times sake; H Subramanium, Tabla and ghatam
player from Kerala; plus lots more. (Armando Trancemedia

Fatorda on August 25. Salgaocar went ahead through U-20 Zico D'Souza in the
9th minute and Sporting equalized through an injury time goal from Bibiano

Vasco, on August 25. Vasco opened their account in the 14th minute through
Agnelo D'Souza. Six minutes later they increased the lead through Anthony

***

It is common knowledge that only the elected members constituencies are
being planned for developments, but it has proven beyond doubt now after
Poinguinim MLA's resignation and subsequently cleared to contest on BJP
ticket.

Say suppose and i repeat suppose : The 2 present ministers in BJP are
disqualified and Congress topple the present government and to make things
complicated, Isidore wins the election. Does it not mean that the planned
developments gets shelved. Where does his loan payments stand now? (ok, it
must be cleared by now:-)) Its getting more interesting by the day to know
the switching and trading taking place. Politics has become just a farce
with no sight of improving any further. Everybody only thinks how the rob
the public once elected to the chair. Distribute peanuts to fool the common
man, and take the pie sitting in A/c cabins and make hay on taxpayers money.

Yet again people will be taken for a ride.... Its time to field a candidate
from the new party i guess.

Lok Shakti listening??

commencement of Bonderam festivities. The main function is scheduled to
begin at 4.30 pm at the Asilo grounds, with the parading of the traditional
flags to the accompaniment of a brass band. The six floats which will vie

(Goa Desc

top musicians in attendance, at Gonsalves Mansion, Campal-Panjim, from 7 pm.

They have a great
opportunity thanks to the efforts of some Divar citizens who have made this
possible through the Sons-of-the-Soil project in association with ACES,

uprooted tees.

Sporting Clube de Goa to hold strong contenders and defending champions
Salgaocar SC to 1-1 draw to split points in the GFA's Pro Football league at
Fatorda on August 25. Salgaocar went ahead through U-20 Zico D'Souza in the
9th minute and Sporting equalized through an injury time goal from Bibiano
Fernandes. (GT)

DEMPO SPLIT POINTS: Dempo SC came from behind to hold Vasco SC 2-2 draw to
split points in the GFA's Professional Football league at Tilak Maidan,
Vasco, on August 25. Vasco opened their account in the 14th minute through
Agnelo D'Souza. Six minutes later they increased the lead through Anthony
Pereira. Dempo equalized through Johny D'Cruz in the 26th minute, and Lavino
Rodrigues just three minutes before the lemon break. (GT)

(GT)

SKYBUS PRELIMINARY TEST SUCCESSFUL: The Konkan
Railway Corporation on August
25 achieved another milestone with the successful
preliminary test of the
Sky Bus. The Sky Bus moved on its own power using
sophisticated 3-phase AC
motor technology supplied by ELIN EBG of Austria. It
was a momentous
occasion when the Sky Bus moved to and fro over a
30-metre distance. KRC
manager (public relations) Baban Ghadge informed
that full-scale
pre-commissioning trials on the test track would be
conducted from the first
week of September. (GT)

but trucks carrying

exemplary life holiness and worked many miracles
during his lifetime. (GT)
Traditional fishermen have
maintained that there's been an overall decline in
fish catch in recent
times. But, unlike the boat owners, who support the
early lifting of the ban
to maximise fish catch, the traditional fishermen
want a ban on trawling to
conserve the marine resources; Goenchea

Agnelo Rodrigues told Herald that the catch of the
prized shrimp has been on
a gradual decline in the last few years, and blamed
large scale mechanized
fishing for the disturbing situation. (H)
NUVEM'S ACUTE TRAFFIC CONGESTION: Acute traffic
congestion in Nuvem village
is a problem that has been dogging the local
populace for quite some time.
The situation is particularly chaotic at the main
junction near the Nuvem

lack of traffic discipline
coupled with a never-ending stream of traffic makes
the area accident-prone.

Hello Henry,

I hope it get into your head and other Goans in the
Gulf. The bharat government in Goa is there with open
arms to receive whatever you send. Do not expect any
thing from them. Goans are deeply entrenched in a
thrid world country.
