Dear JoeGoaUk:

Because you asked, I am providing this for the record . . .

Joel has been an employee of GOACOM for many years.

There are two GOACOMs
GOACOM - non commercial, dedicated mainly to serve the community
GOACOM INSYS (Pvt.) Ltd - which provides commercial IT
services and has its separate office and staff in Goa.

GOACOM (non-commercial) has one employee - Joel D'Souza
His job is to produce the NewsClips and the e-zine GoaNow.
GoaNow is hosted by GOACOM INSYS (Pvt.) Ltd. free of charge.
His newsclips are provided free of charge to GOACOM INSYS (Pvt.) Ltd. and to
GoaNet.

His salary is paid by myself, Marlon Menezes (USA) and John D'Souza
(Canada). As we all live overseas, this money is remitted to Goa every
month.

We also, together with help from others overseas, help to pay for his
computer and camera equipment.

This is a 100% free community service.

He is now in poor health and needs help. I was approached by a close friend
of his to appeal for help. That is why I wrote to GoaNet.

e.g. 12 JUNE 2004: GOACOM DAILY NEWS CLIPPINGS
It seems the above clippings are originally meant for
the Commercial Website 'Goacom'? The same also copied
to Goanet with Commercial tag/link to the site etc...
which is then automatically distributed to all
(6000?)Goanet members through mailing list etc
Ref. Goanet Posting..
I have known Joel and his family personally for many
years. We are not only close friends but my company
GOACOM pays his monthly salary for his NewsClips and
GoaNow (on the GOACOM website).
==
Just curious to know what contribution did Goacom
made or intends to make towards the fund...

No offense meant, Tim, but, to my mind, what you three seem to be paying, Joel,
is an *HONORARIUM*.

Another thing, I believe that there has been an amendment to the Indian Income
Tax Act this year (FY 2004-2005) with respect to money received from abroad by
any individual. As long as the funds are from a relative, no tax is payable.
In all other cases, Tax is levied.
