2000 LINES TELEPHONE EXCHANGE COMMISSIONED

The 2000 lines new Telephone exchange set up by Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd,
Goa Telcom was launched at Velim in Salcete taluka today.

With the commissioning of Velim exchange the total number of exchanges in
Goa has gone upto 135.

This exchange is connected to Margao main exchange with optic fiber 34 mb
equipment which is reliable, stable and more than sufficient capacity
media.

Similarly, EWSD is the 22nd Remote sensing unit (RSU) from Margao main
exchange. The new exchange which has cost over 10 million rupees is housed
in a newly constructed building and will cater to the needs of people
from Assolna, Betul and Velim Villages, Besides, with the Commissioning
of exchange all phone plus services and ISDN facility can be availed by
the subscriber of Velim area.

Speaking on the occasion the Water Resources Minister termed the new
telephone exchange as yet another step of development in Velim
Constituency.He solicited the co-operation of the people in matters
concerning providing telephone facilities in their villages.

Speaking further Mr. Rodrigues asked the Telecom officials to assess the
feasibility of providing telephone connections in remote areas of Velim
Village.Similarly, he urged them to pay heed to the suggestions put forth
by consumer forum to redress problems concerning telephone facility.

The Member of Parliament in his address said that he intends to cover
entire South Goa with telephone connectivity. Villages like Naturlem,
Barcem, Paddi and Cotigao will also have new telephone exchanges Mr.
Angle said and asked the people to treat the newly inaugurated telephone
exchange as their own property to maintain it properly. He also assured
to construct a Children's Park under MPLAD Scheme at Velim.

Fr. Santan Carvalho also spoke.

Mr. Cruz D'Silva, sarpanch of Ambelim was present on the occasion.

Earlier Mr Chenchaiah, General Manager of Telecom welcomed and R. K.
